Clash of the Titans: Satisfactory
Overview: A demigod, who is in the middle of an identity crisis, is brought by faith into a battle against gods. Perseus the son of Zeus and a mortal woman must prove that even man can rise up against the god. He battles some of the most famous beasts of Greek Mythology and faces Hades the Ruler of the Underworld. This tale is an epic journey indeed.
Grade: B- Genre: Action, Fantasy
All lot of the media has been beating on this movie, but to be truthful I cannot wholly disagree or agree with them. A lot of this movie was good, and yet a lot of it was crap. For example, the cg effects were well done, but making the gods glow and glitter like Edward Cullen was not cool. On top of that they (the gods) were wearing medieval armor, which is not Greek so bad costume design. For shame on the designers and for the guys who did the CG effects please use your talent for something useful because you can clearly do your job well. Then there is the Jin which if you watched the Star Wars films, they greatly resemble the Sand people. Both of them grunt as they talk and dressed in savage, ragged hooded robes. They just did not fall into the storyline considering that they are not a part of the original story of Perseus (not the first movie but the actual Greek story). If they were not in the movie, it would have been fine. If they were an omitted from the story nothing would have been lost and in fact the presence of the Jin was rather under explained. They sort of come and go though so they do not dominate to much of the movie with their company.
For any Greek mythology fans, you will be disappointed if you are looking for an accurate retelling of the story of Perseus, but this alternate storyline is by far satisfactory. Those looking for a good time and a good fighting scene, will love this except for the cliché thunder gathering sword, something commonly seen in the world of fantasy. They have an epic battle with huge scorpions and the kraken as shown on the trailers and the fight is pretty cool. I have to say though that the delivery of the, “release the kraken!” was very anticlimactic and poorly betrayed. I felt a lot of the scene could have been done differently, but again if you just want to go to the movies there is no problem. Perhaps as a critic, I am over analyzing things, but the movie contained some fatal flaws none the less.
Besides a few things that bothered me, the movie was an excellent source of entertainment. The plot was decent and the action sequences were well done. I thought that it was mediocre film that anyone with friends can watch together.
